Judged by the Guild of Fine Food’s expert panel, Malvern Inky Pink (Chilli) Bitters is awarded a Great Taste 1-star in the world’s most trusted food and drink accreditation scheme
1 August 2024: Small-batch aromatic crafts bitters company, Malvern Bitters, has been named among the top food and drink producers globally this year, awarded a highly prized gold star in the Great Taste Awards for its Malvern Inky Pink (Chilli) Bitters. One of only 5,590 products to receive a Great Taste award in 2024 (which is only 40.8% of the total products entered), 13,672 products were put through the competition’s rigorous blind judging process. A total of 3,938 products were awarded a Great Taste 1-star: ‘food and drink that delivers fantastic flavour’; 1,386 were awarded a Great Taste 2-star: ‘above and beyond delicious’; and 266 were awarded a Great Taste 3-star: ‘extraordinarily tasty food and drink’.
A big hit with the Great Taste judges, they described the bitters as follows: “These are unadulterated, uncompromising and delicious bitters. Hot, punchy notes of capsicum softened with a little fruit. Approach with caution, but decidedly worth approaching!” And: “Deep ruby red bitters with a deep, fiery impact. This drink must be mixed to appreciate it properly and without allowing the fire to set your mouth alight! Botanical, bitter and fiery. Sound, but must be used wisely.”
Pippa Sanderson, Founder and Director of Malvern Bitters, said: “We are thrilled to have won a Great Taste award for our Malvern Inky Pink (Chilli) Bitters and are proud to be adding the prestigious black and gold Great Taste badge of honour to the bottles of our very popular, fiery bitters.
“Being recognised with a star from Great Taste means so much to independent producers such as Malvern Bitters, as it makes all the hard work and determination worth it! Great Taste is one of the most recognised accolades for taste and quality in the food and drinks industry, so it’s a huge moment for us!”

May 2024: Malvern Bitters' Inky Blue Bitters has been awarded GOLD in the Speciality Cocktail Products category in this year's World Drinks Awards.
Entries are blind tasted and scored to an enforced policy. Each drink is marked on aroma, flavour and finish, with other elements also taken into consideration. Written tasting notes are created for each product.
Once scored, these are added together to give an overall mark. This is used to calculate the best and top-scoring spirits, which move on to the next stage of judging.
The judges' tasting notes said: "A lovely example of aromatic bitters that would work well in a host of classic cocktails such as the Pink Gin or the Old Fashioned. The colour-changing aspect works really well and has interesting applications in both full-strength and no/low alcohol drinks."
April 2024: With 84/100 points, Malvern Bitters has won a silver medal for its Malvern Inky Blue Bitters in the London Spirits Competition 2024. This is a competition where spirits, wines and beers are judged, keeping end consumers in mind. They are rated with three main criteria in mind: quality, value and packaging. To be a medal winner, they must show a high rating in all three factors, with the most weightage being on quality.
A record number of entrants this year were vying for the much-coveted bronze, silver and gold medals, with brands entering from more than 80 countries. The competition prides itself on consistently being assessed by a top panel of judges, consisting of some of the world’s leading figures from the hospitality sector.
About Malvern Inky Blue Bitters, the judging panel said: "This bitters presents spicy cola notes balanced by menthol and herbal hints. Its aroma offers a clean, intense experience with a medicinal touch. On the palate, it delivers intense bitterness and depth of flavour."
