Malvern Bitters are hand crafted on the slopes of the glorious Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, United Kingdom.
In a nutshell, a variety of botanicals such as flowers, herbs, spices, roots, fruit, seeds and bark are infused in a neutral grain spirit for several weeks, after which they are filtered out and the liquid is bottled.
Malvern Bitters' products are made with all-natural, local (where possible) ingredients. Artificial flavours, colourings or preservatives are not welcome here.
We make our bitters by hand; creating, bottling, labelling and shipping directly to you. We only make as much as we can physically produce ourselves . . . and we mean ourselves . . . we don't outsource any production to third parties.
Our products contain none of the 14 major allergens requiring mandatory labelling in the UK.
However, as our bitters are made in a home environment, where allergens may be present, we don't recommend using Malvern Bitters if you are allergic to celery, cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, soya and sulphur dioxide and sulphites (if present above 10ppm).
As with any alcohol product, we don't recommend using Malvern Bitters when pregnant or breastfeeding.
Not at all. Our bitters are shelf stable, although they should be kept in a cool, dark place to retain freshness.
Refrigeration as a means of preservation is not necessary. The alcohol in Malvern Bitters' products acts as a natural preservative, but we recommend storing your bitters as you would store any other spice, in a dry place away from direct exposure to the sunlight. If you choose to refrigerate your Malvern Bitters after opening, we recommend leaving them at room temperature before using them since temperature plays a key role in determining the taste of all the flavour compounds.
For maximum flavour and freshness, we recommend enjoying Malvern Bitters within 12 months of the date of manufacture. As the ingredients are all-natural, with no nasties, the colours may fade after a year or so, so we've affixed a Best Before date on the bottom of each bottle . . . but hopefully they'll prove so delicious that you'll most likely run out before this time!
It is always best to give your bitters a shake before use. Remove the cap and use it as a measuring jigger. For our Malvern Inky Blue (Aromatic) and Malvern Inky Pink (Chilli) bitters, half a capful will usually suffice, but do follow the recipes here if in doubt. Our Malvern Inky Orange & Cardamom Bitters require a little more; around one to two capfuls should do the job perfectly.
Bitters are not just for cocktails, they can also liven up your G&T, sparkling water, lemonade or tonic water. And why not try them on ice cream or yoghurt? You might be pleasantly surprised!
Our products are vegan and no plants are hurt in the production of Malvern Bitters.
We also strive to use entirely sustainable and ethically sourced ingredients.
